Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get my dog groomed?
Depending on breed, the average is 6 to 8 weeks with regular maintenance in between. Many breeds require a minimum of weekly brushing. Nails should be trimmed at least once a month.
What size dogs do you groom?
Currently, Klassy K9, LLC accepts dogs 60 pounds and under. Dogs over 60 pounds are by individual request, based on breed and size.
Does my dog need to be current on annual vaccinations and rabies?
Proof of current rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations are required upon first visit. Klassy K9 allows the dog owner to make decisions on other vaccinations that are not required by state law.
Can I stay and watch my pet be groomed?
When the dog’s owner or caregiver is present the potential for distracting and exciting the dog dramatically increases the chances of accidental injury to the animal and/or the groomer. With your pet’s safety in mind we ask that owners drop off for grooming and pick up after the dog is completed. Additionally, our insurance does not allow for owners to stay.
Will my dog be stuck in a kennel all day?
Most of the time while your dog is at Klassy K9 will consist of one-on-one personal attention during the entire grooming process. Unless you drop off early and/or pick up late, kennel time will be unnecessary. Your groomer will contact you as soon your dog's spa treatment is complete and he/she is ready to be picked up.
Is there anything I can do, as the owner, to help my dog have a good day with the groomer?
Yes, training your dog with basic manners helps tremendously. Additionally, get your dog or puppy used to being handled and touched all over; ears, nose, paws, tail, etc. The paws are a common place that gets missed and can make nail trims much easier if the dog is used to having his paws handled. Is winter grooming really necessary?
Yes, scheduling regular grooming visits throughout the year helps keep your pet’s coat healthy and free from mats. Ear cleaning, nail trimming, brushing, odor and shedding control are important all year long. If your dog is kept in a long coat during the winter months, be prepared to brush them regularly or plan to have your companion professionally groomed to maintain a healthy coat, and possibly avoid a costly shave down appointment in the future. Double coated dogs, or breeds with an undercoat shed continuously, so a
de-shed treatment is still needed year round.
My dog is matted but I don't want him shaved. Why won't you brush him out?
Because it hurts. Grooming should be a good experience for the dog, and if you've had anybody pull your hair, you know it does not feel good. In some cases, with severe matting, it is impossible to comb through the hair, and bathing the dog does not help since the shampoo cannot even penetrate the mats. Allowing the coat to remain matted is not good for the health of your dog's coat and skin, so, in these cases a shave down becomes necessary.
What determines the cost to have my dog groomed.
The cost is based on the breed of the dog, what you want done, the condition of the coat, and the pet's behavior. Any price given over the phone is an estimate. Things such as matting, specific cuts and styles, medicated or special shampoos, and behavior related issues can add additional cost to the base price.
